Severe Weather Awareness Week 3/19 – 3/25/2023

Severe Weather Awareness Week will be held March 19-25, with the Statewide Tornado Drill being conducted on March 22 at 1 p.m. We hope that communities and individuals across the state will use this as an opportunity to discuss severe weather threats and what to do when severe weather hits.

You’ll find lots of resources online to help you and your family become aware, know what to do, and be prepared in the event of a severe weather event. Parents should review these resources, develop a plan, and involve your children.

Are you prepared?…

  • Do you have a plan?
  • Where will you go?
  • What will you do?
  • Do you know the alert systems in your area?
  • How will you communicate?

Unfortunately, a lot of individuals do not think about these things until it is too late. Prepare your family, engage your community, and help build a prepared and resilient Michigan!

The resources included are checklists, discussion starters, community involvement, and more.

Not just severe weather: Links can also be found for other types of emergencies including Active Shooter, Blackouts, Cyber Security, Emergency Alerts, Extreme Cold, Extreme Heat, Fires, Flooding and Landslides, Hazardous Materials, Nuclear Threat, Pandemic, Recovering from Disaster, Terrorism, Thunderstorms and Lightning, Tornadoes, and Winter Weather Emergency Preparedness.
